Overview
Call of Duty: World at war is a lot like The Game of the Year Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which most of us knew that was going to happen which was a good thing. But as us gamers we are getting a little tired of the WWII setting and want something more modern that was why Call of Duty 4 was such a major hit. Nevertheless this game still had me amazed at how much detail and even just the movie clips brought a nice touch to it.
Throughout the game it switches back and forth as you are the Russians that push out of their own land onto enemy territory *Germans* and then you are the American's that are struggling to save the Pacific Islands from the Japanese. They did a really good job on this as you don't get lost between the switching and it all flows together very nicely. They show what it pretty much was like to be back in that time fighting enemy's on there own soil and show how a lot were never rescued and a lot died fighting for what they believed in.
Then after awhile you start to get a triumph as you start beating the *Germans* and *Japanese* in a self sense of victory. Which this game really challenges you when you play on Veteran difficulty. Each mission will keep you wanting to get further and further tell victory is won. Your not only on the ground fighting but also up in the air in one mission and saving people that are drowning and also your driving tanks the missions are pretty long but very fun and sometimes frustrating at times but all around a great game.
Guess on veteran they had to make it pretty hard otherwise it wouldn't be a challenge for you. Like i said the story line in this game is amazing i have went through 3 times on veteran and i am still liking the game and getting frustrated to at the same time but fun in all sense. Throughout the game there is actual WWII videos, photos, and statistics presented in stylish inter chapter cut scenes which add to a great campaign and fill in a little bit of what it was like back then.
Gameplay
Well there is some good stuff that they have did a little better then Call of Duty 4: Modern Warefare but there is some things that they did worse in as i will explain here.
The Good: More of a feel in the game like a in depth kinda approach that you really did not see in COD-4 well not to much anyways. The 4 player campaign is a nice touch but also bad as they should of made more achievements for the campaign mode to get more people stoked to actually play it, instead of sticking almost all the achievements onto solo. Nazi Zombies this is a awesome feature in the game as after you get done beating the game it unlocks and you are in a building that has endless Nazi zombies that break in and try to get you and when i say endless i mean it kinda a bad thing to bud still fun at all its best. Multiplayer is a lot better in most ways then Call of Duty 4 as you have bigger maps, tanks, dogs, cocktail bombs, flame thrower and much more and you don't have to worry about some punk team killing you the whole game as they have a 3 kill kick rule and your out. The guns are cool the new challenges are cool and it wont get you bored trying to get them all.
The Bad: Well for one they could of made your team actually help you out a lot more specially on veteran and having 10 grenades flying at you at all times gets you really mad. I played this game straight through the day it came out and it took about 3 days for me to beat it which is pretty good then a game that takes only 1 day to beat but when you see your partner standing 2 feet in front of the enemy and not even shooting at him makes no sense at all in my mind. Ya you do see you team get killed a lot but not as much as you would think as the enemy is all pretty much aiming just at you, you will see what i mean once you start playing the game well at least on veteran it was like this, but i got all passed it after time.
Key is patience and a lot of dodging grenades and bullets and trying to get around your team that always gets in your way or a small rock holds you up and boom your dead but ya i can go all day with this but i will not. In the unlocked mission you get at the end Nazi zombie one if they were going to make it endless like that they should of did a better building structure or even a rooftop that would of been nice or even let us be able to get out the windows and run around and kill zombies but no your stuck in a small building with 2 levels and that's it. Could of gave some of the guns a little more power.
The Co-Op campaign was a smart thing to do but if they would of had a lot more achievements to unlock in it, it would of made it a lot more fun for people to do but not everyone is about the achievements but that would of been a plus for the ones that cared. The Death cards most them are all that go towards helping the enemy out which kinda was fun throwing rocks at them instead of grenades but also they could of came up with some cool ones for use to actually have some use for.
Graphics
The graphics on this game really amazed me and how much detail they did put forward on this game you really don't get to much time to just look around as you have a lot of grenades flying at you but other then that its pretty good. The detail in the guys, landscape everything was done really good a lot better then the past WWII games.
Sound
Sound was also really good in this game and the story line and everything all came perfectly into play. The gun shots sounded real and the explosions, everything in this game for sound was done excellent.
Overall
Well like i stated before it has its ups and its down but well worth the money if your into shooter games and just multiplayer and the big maps had me sold and not to mention again but the 3 team kill boot rule also made me buy this game. The campaign was fun and frustrating at times but still all good at best and who doesn't want to kill Nazi zombies for the hell of it i know i do. Co-Op campaign might give you give you some excitement as your playing with your buds and taking on mass enemy's and plowing them down. I had fun just going on the easiest difficulty with 3 other friends of mine and just stabbing the enemy throughout the whole game or even throwing rocks at them. A good adder to your collection of Call of Duty Games. Lets see what else they can bring to the table in the future for us.
